Embolic Myocardial Infarction

  • The coronary occlusion occurs due to thromboembolism most commonly from prosthetic valves, endocarditis, or from the left atrium in atrial fibrillation.
  • The define of thromboembolic infarction: abrupt vessel cut-off, no atherosclerotic plaque obvious in the vicinity and paucity of collaterals.
  • Routine aspiration thrombectomy more readily identifies embolic infarction allowing more specific therapy and avoidance of stenting and triple anticoagulant therapy.
